About B2

Expedition Yacht Advantages

B2 is full displacement Expedition yacht, a displacement hull is designed to remain fully in the water throughout its entire range of speed.  It does not climb out of its bow wave and plane on the water's surface.  Requiring a fraction of the horsepower that semi-displacement or planing hulls require to attain optimum speed, a displacement hull of 66ft (like B2) will be capable of maintaining speeds in the 7-11 knot range while burning a minimum of fuel.  Beyond these speeds, a boat in this size range must get up on plane.  With entirely different seakeeping characteristics, a planing boat requires tremendous horsepower, which leads to enormous fuel consumption, not to mention a disproportionate increase in noise and vibration.  As the noted designer William Garden once said, "A planing hull can't carry enough fuel to get out of sight." The laws of hydrodynamics clearly recommend the displacement hull for efficiency and seakindliness.

The engine on B2, is a large de-rated Lugger (the people who make John Deere tractors and Northern Lights generators).  It develops it’s required horsepower at low revs which greatly reduces noise and vibration during passages.   The installation of special sound deadening materials throughout the engine room and free floating "dry" exhaust system means that sound levels throughout the boat are further minimized.

The hull shape of an Expedition Yacht with it’s deep full length keel, allows for greater internal volume than a planning yacht of similar length.   In fact B2 has roughly DOUBLE the interior space of Sunseeker Manhattan 64.

Because they are deigned to cross the oceans, the safety equipment and electronics aboard B2 are the best you can get.   Furthermore the deck areas, walkways and railings are all much safer than you would get on a similar sized planning boat.

The deep keel, and heavy displacement mean that a boat like B2, feels much more stable at anchor and moves a lot less than a planning boat.   In addition B2 is fitted with large hydraulic stabilizers (like you would get aboard a super yacht) which keep uncomfortable rolling (from side to side) to a minimum.
